Nickel Based Welding Wire
Product Details
ERCuNi is a copper-nickel alloy welding rod primarily designed for Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW/TIG) and Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW/MIG) of copper-nickel alloys, especially those containing 70% Cu and 30% Ni (70/30) or 90% Cu and 10% Ni (90/10). It is widely used in marine, offshore, and desalination industries due to its excellent resistance to saltwater corrosion, erosion, and biofouling.
Also Known As:
Copper-Nickel Alloy Welding Rod
AWS A5.7 ERCuNi
UNS C71580 Welding Wire
Material Composition:
Copper (Cu): ~65–70%
Nickel (Ni): ~30%
Iron (Fe): ≤ 0.75%
Manganese (Mn): ≤ 1.0%
Silicon (Si): ≤ 0.5%
Other Elements: ≤ 0.5% combined
Color / Appearance:
Smooth metallic finish, reddish-gold in color

1.6 mm, 2.0 mm, 2.4 mm, 3.2 mm (custom diameters available)
Packaging:
Spools or straight rods, typically packed in 5 kg or 15 kg packages
Standards:
AWS A5.7 ERCuNi
ASME SFA-5.7
ISO 24373 CuNi10Fe
Excellent Saltwater Resistance: Designed for outstanding resistance to seawater, both in stagnant and turbulent conditions.
High Strength and Ductility: Delivers strong, ductile welds that resist cracking and mechanical fatigue.
Good Thermal Conductivity: Copper base ensures effective heat conduction, ideal for heat exchanger components.
Corrosion and Erosion Resistance: Performs well under continuous fluid exposure, preventing material degradation.
Smooth Bead Appearance: Produces uniform welds with minimal spatter and excellent surface finish.
The ERCuNi welding rod is optimized for TIG and MIG welding processes:
TIG (GTAW): For precise, high-quality welds with low distortion. Preferred in applications where finish and accuracy are critical.
MIG (GMAW): Offers higher productivity with continuous feeding, ideal for large-volume welding tasks such as pipe joints or heat exchangers.
Both processes require argon or argon-helium shielding gases for best results.
During the welding process, ERCuNi melts and fuses with the base metal, forming a metallurgically bonded joint. The high nickel content improves strength and corrosion resistance, while copper offers excellent thermal and electrical conductivity. The small amounts of iron and manganese enhance weldability and mechanical properties. This alloy is specifically engineered to match the thermal expansion and corrosion profile of copper-nickel base metals.
Marine Industry:
Welds for copper-nickel piping systems on ships and offshore platforms
Ideal for seawater cooling lines, firewater systems, and ballast systems
Desalination Plants:
Used in brine heaters, evaporators, and piping in reverse osmosis systems
Resists stress corrosion and scaling in hot, saline environments
Heat Exchangers & Condensers:
For welding tubes and sheets in power generation and HVAC systems
Ensures longevity and efficiency under high heat and humidity
