Thermal Spray Wire
Product Details
Product Information
Thermal Spray Wire Monel 400 0.8mm MIG is a specialized wire used in thermal spray coating and welding applications. It is also known as Monel 400 Wire, UNS N04400 Wire, or Alloy 400 Wire. Made primarily of nickel (about 63%) and copper (about 30-34%), Monel 400 offers a unique combination of corrosion resistance, high strength, and excellent weldability. The wire has a metallic silver-gray appearance and is supplied in various spool sizes. It is commonly used for surface protection in marine environments, chemical plants, and industrial equipment. Standard wire diameter is 0.8mm, but other sizes such as 1.2mm and 1.6mm are also available.
Characteristics
Material Composition: Approximately 63% Nickel, 30-34% Copper, with traces of iron and manganese.
Color: Metallic silver-gray.
Diameter: Standard 0.8mm, customizable between 0.8mm to 2.0mm.
Corrosion Resistance: Excellent resistance to seawater, acids, and alkalis.
Strength: High tensile strength and toughness over a wide temperature range.
Weldability: Good weldability with no need for post-weld heat treatment.
Surface Condition: Bright and clean surface, free of oil and oxidation.
Technology
Thermal Spray Wire Monel 400 is produced by precision drawing processes to ensure tight tolerances and smooth surfaces, ideal for consistent feeding in MIG welding and thermal spray systems. Advanced annealing and cleaning treatments are applied to maintain flexibility while avoiding brittleness. Quality control during manufacturing ensures that the wire has excellent ductility, stable melting properties, and uniform chemical composition, which are crucial for high-performance coating results.
Theory
Monel 400 operates based on the principle of forming a protective barrier over surfaces. During the thermal spraying process, the wire is fed into a heat source where it melts and is propelled onto the target surface, forming a dense, corrosion-resistant coating. In MIG welding applications, the wire serves as a filler material that creates strong, corrosion-resistant joints. Its high nickel content enables superior resistance to chemical attacks, while the copper content enhances the wire’s toughness and mechanical performance.
Application
Thermal Spray Coating for Marine Equipment:
Monel 400 wire is widely used for thermal spraying ship parts, offshore platforms, and pumps that operate in highly corrosive seawater environments. This prevents pitting, corrosion, and extends equipment life.
Welding of Monel Alloys and Dissimilar Metals:
Monel 400 wire is suitable for MIG welding of Monel 400 to itself or to other nickel-copper alloys. It is also effective in joining dissimilar metals, offering strong, corrosion-resistant welds.
Surface Protection for Chemical Processing Equipment:
Tanks, pipes, and valves in chemical plants are often coated with Monel 400 to prevent corrosion from acids, alkalis, and harsh chemicals.
Different product names based on usage:
Monel 400 Thermal Spray Wire
UNS N04400 MIG Welding Wire
Alloy 400 Surface Coating Wire
